Wait! Did you know that you can be put on a list for our rescue? You can pick your favorite breed or breeds, and when we get one of those dogs in, a courtesy email will be sent to you alerting you that we have a dog that you are looking for! It's really simple! Here's what you do... 1. Register with our site (it's free!) 2. Log in 3. Go under "My Rescue" found on the left side of the page 4. Click on "My favorite Breeds" and choose dog, then choose the breed or breeds that you like the best 5. Go to "My Options" on the left side of the screen, check the box that says "get alert when your favorite breed is added" and save the changes. You will automatically get an email when a dog of that type comes into our rescue! It's easy!Please consider adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue group. Do not buy from pet stores or puppy mills. Rescues and shelters should: 1. The dogs should be altered & up to date on immunizations, heartworm checked (if over 6 months/relevant) & in good health. (including heartworm preventative, worming, flea treatments and other vetting) All dogs should come with vetting paperwork. 2. They should require the dog/cat be returned to their organization if you cannot keep the animal for whatever reason, and this should be stated in the adoption contract. 3. They should have had the dog/cat in their rescue for a short amount of time prior to placing them up for adoption. (Why? This allows the rescue to get to know the dog/cat to ensure a good match with the potential family and also find any potential health ailments the dog/cat may have that have gone undetected by a vet. It takes a good couple of weeks for vaccines to take effect. Thus, any dog you adopt should have been in a foster home or quarantine (like the spca) for at least a couple weeks before being transported from out of state (out of state shelters DO NOT have the same standards as we do, here in Western, NY, and often vaccinate dogs just a DAY prior to transporting them to NY); Parvo takes a week to ten days to incubate. Your new dog could arrive incubating any number of diseases- Parvo, distemper, coccidia, giardia, lyme disease, coronavirus, influenza, hepatitis, leptospirosis, kennel cough, ring worm, heartworm, not to mention fleas, ticks, and worms!). **Beware of anyone who asks you to pick up your new dog directly off the transport. **Beware of anyone who asks you to pay CASH for a dog or pup, and does not give you a contract nor vetting paperwork with your new dog.If you can't find a dog or cat that is a good match for you from our rescue, please try other rescues or shelters! Oak Street --------------------------------------------------------------- Located in Tonawanda, NY 205 Ensminger Rd. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VOLUNTEERS FOR ANIMALS GENESEE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a rural shelter located on rt. 98 and 31A. They are only open Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. They do not update their petfinder site regularly, and because of their limited viewing hours, dogs have a difficult time getting adopted from that shelter. They have a lot of wonderful dogs there, please consider taking a nice country ride out there and taking a look! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a newer rescue and very small. Her focus is on Cats- located in Clarence, NY. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a wonderful rescue that takes in the neediest of dogs. They are always in need of wonderful, patient homes and the dogs in their organization are dogs that other rescues simply won't take in. Cats, dogs, birds and other domestic animals in need of shelter and veterinary help are cared for until they can be restored to their original owners or new homes found. No animal is ever destroyed for lack of a permanent home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Another Chance is a volunteer run, 501c3 registered, non profit rescue group that is funded entirely by donations. We were formed in 2007 by rescuers from other groups who wanted to be able to do more and help out more animals in need. We are rescuing animals that would otherwise be euthanized due to overcrowding in our local shelters. Many are just too young or too small, so they unfortunately can’t be adopted out, so we step in and take them and give them “another chance” at life. All of these cats and kittens except those being socialized have the run of our house. Our goals are not only to place these dogs in loving, forever homes, but to help educate people on the characteristics of this wonderful and intelligent breed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Jack Russell Rescue services the greater Rochester, New York area taking Jack Russells into rescue and foster care in order to find them new homes and offer them a second chance, or third, for a happy life. Annually, the rescue places from twelve to fifteen terriers, and sadly with the popularity of the breed we are placing more and more terriers. Many need to be spayed or neutered and medically treated before their new placements. ------------------------------------------------------ The founder and Director of Joyful Rescues, Joye Turock, along with her husband Jeff turned their lives and home upside down in forming Joyful Rescues. When you hear the phrase 'gone to the dogs', well that is exactly where the Turock world has gone. Joyful Rescues is not a shelter where potential adopters can walk through to view pets in cages. For the most part, our pets are not caged unless medical or behavioral issues mandate it. Dogs enjoy lounging in the house, roaming the fenced 8 acre doggy paradise and swimming in the large pond. Pixie Mamas Chihuahua Rescue (PMCR) is a group of volunteer Chihuahua lovers whose mission is to rescue, provide sanctuary, and ultimately to re-home abandoned, stray and neglected dogs. We also assist dogs who, because of extenuating circumstances, are unable to remain in their homes. Whenever possible we aid in the rescue of other small breed dogs (under 15 pounds). We are located in Western and Central New York. All PMCR dogs are housed in foster homes where they are provided with an enormous amount of love and any medical attention that may be required to insure that they are in good health before adoption. They are all spayed or neutered and brought up-to-date on shots before being placed in their new homes. All dogs are evaluated for temperament and personality

Cats are housed in foster homes until they have found a permanent home. The rescued cats and kittens receive medical attention, tests, vaccinations, and spay or neuter before they are adopted. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WNY Shiba Inu Rescue began in 2004 when it became apparent to me that so many individuals fell in love with the fox-like, adorable face of the Red Shiba Inu, but were unprepared for their willful, feisty nature and left them stranded in shelters across the nation.
