Ojay's Sponsorship Page
Ojay

Ojay was found running around one of our volunteer's neighborhood. She held onto him for three days and when his owner didn't step forward we turned him over to the dog warden for his 5 day "stray" hold. Once his five days were up, Ojay was officially released into BDSc's custody. His previous owner finally did come forward and sign surrender papers once she knew he was with the dog warden.

**1st few weeks in his foster home**
Ojay is a energetic, lovable 9 month old puppy! He LOVES playing with other dogs and is great around cats. He is not housetrained yet but is working very hard on it. his previous owner held down 3 jobs and did not have the time required to train a puppy. I am sure with some structure, patience, and a daily routine, Ojay will be housetrained in no time! We are also working on crate training. He has never been in a crate before, so this is all new to him. He is being a great sport and shows his appreciation by giving MANY, MANY wet kisses-lol. Ojay appears to really like car rides and will try to sit on your lap. I don't think he realizes we need to see to drive-lol. I tether him in the passenger seat and he does just fine.  He has no food or toy aggression. In fact, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He is just a tail waggin' bundle of love! He really likes to be near his humans and just wants to please them. Ojay lacked the early training puppies need so obedience classes would be very beneficial for him. I would also suggest puppy play groups/classes to continue his socialization. He would love the dog park, and we will be taking him there to play as soon as he receives his vaccinations.  So, if you feel Ojay is the one for you and you understand the dedication, patience, and commitment he needs, please apply now! He can't wait to meet you!

**Update~Oct 2009** Now that Ojay has settled in he has become a true "love bug" He thinks he is a lap dog and is what I call a "velcro" dog. He LOVES his humans and really just wants to be by your side. He likes to be in the same room as you and if he had his way, he would be on the couch curled up right next to you.  Crate training has been a huge success. Ojay does not mess his crate at all and will only grumble for a few minutes. I found that putting a bone in his crate with him will make him a happy boy :)  His potty training is also going great.  He is on a schedule and does his business outside:) When he has an accident in the house he knows to do it on the paper. Ojay sleeps in our room at night and USUALLY makes it all night. I do lay paper down just in case, and he always knows thats where he has to go if he can't make it. He is learning to whine at the door, so he is almost there....

Ojay does seem to get a bit overwhelmed at our indoor adoption events and will bark/cry when alot is going on. He tends to want EVERY dog to come play with him and if they growl or bark at him he will get upset and bark and cry. Its like he is trying to tell them, "I just want to play, don't be mad" We are working on correcting his behavior when this happens. We also noticed when we go to the pet store, Ojay does not like the birds. He will pull and bark like crazy to get to them. Once he is near them he just sniffs them, but when he is out of reach he will start barking again. I'm not sure if he is just curious, wants to play, or is trying to eat them.  Because of this, I wouldn't recommend a home with pet birds.  I can honestly tell you, right now, these are his only "issues". I think with some more exposure, socializing, and training, Ojay will overcome his insecurities.

**Update Oct 29** We noticed Ojay seems to be losing some hair around his eyes. We suspected it may be mange so off to the vet we went. After a skin scrape and some yummy treats, our fears were confirmed. Ojay has a slight case of mange. Don't worry folks, its not contagious. Ojay will be taking some meds for the next month to clear this up. The meds are a bit costly so any donations would be greatly appreciated. You can still apply for this wonderful pup with the understanding that he cannot be placed until the mange is cleared up.

**Update Nov 11th** Ojay is such a good sport! He is doing great with taking his meds. I posted a new picture of him on my couch so you could see the area around his eyes is looking much better. It won't be long now....just a week or two....and he will be good as new! Please apply now for this lovable guy! He is hoping to be in his forever home for his 1st Christmas. Help make his Christmas wish come true!!

Poor Ojay seems to be having a run of bad luck :( Through all the changes in his short life he has stayed a happy, loving dog! It doesn't seem to bother him, all this bad luck.....but I know deep down inside he is yearning for his "happy ending". Please make that happen for Ojay. I know he is "just another Pit" but let me tell you.....he is one special guy!! He will promise to love you unconditionally. He will be totally loyal. He will play ball with you when your bored, go for walks with you when you feel stressed, he will even be your blanket on those cold winter nights when your feet can't seem to stay warm!

Because of Ojay's breed, we will have strict requirements for his adoption. He can only be adopted to a homeowner with a fenced in yard. Due to his energy level, he will only be adopted to a family with either no children or children over 10. Thank you for your understanding:)
