Description:
**Update 11/11/09** Mr. Baxter is doing very good on learning his house training... He is just a LOVER! Even though he has a 3 out of 6 Heart murmer - that does not slow him down! He LOVES to play with any kind of stuffed toy- He steals all the toys and takes them into his crate- He is very happy when you come home and he will tell you how excited he is to see you! Baxter is currently staying with 5 other dogs and 2 cats - he gets along w/ everyone! His eye is looking much better no more goopy stuff in there. Please consider opening your home and heart to Baxter.

Baxter!

Baxter came from a shelter but whoever had him before they dropped him there, didn't care much for him, it was obvious when he got to us. Besides the ton of goopy gross stuff in his left eye, he was matted and missing a lot of his hair. The shelter did the best they could to cut away all the mats from his face and body before sending him to us, but he was in such rough shape when dropped there, that he still came to us with mats on his little body.

The more we looked him over, the more we realized how poor his general health was. This boy needed some TLC. We will be getting Baxter into the vets first thing Monday morning to get his eye looked at- we are worried he is blind. We gave him a bath and wiped as much goop out of it as we could- (and the shelter did the same before sending him) and tested him to see if he would react at all to us coming near his eye with our finger/snapping. He wouldn't flinch when we did, but he flinched when we did with the other eye-the normal eye. That is why we suspect he is blind. Upon bathing him, we noted the massive matting on his fur around his front legs, and the fur loss in various locations. It is obvious to us the discomfort he is in because of this. Poor fella! We are wondering if he has skin allergies or what is going on there. We'll keep you posted on his progress.

We do work with an eye specialist in the area where we have taken other dogs of ours before, and we'll most likely end up taking him there, too, but want to get him into our general vet for a check up regardless on Monday (for his skin, too). We are leaving his pathetic shelter picture up so that you can see his one eye and the goop in it that we tried to clean out. While you can't see his fur loss in this photo (it's mostly on his rump) you can see how pathetic he looks! This poor little guy has certainly not lost his happy spirit as he tolerated his bath well and his tail never stopped wagging once he was out, despite all his scratching and raw skin.

All in all, he is a happy go lucky guy with a super temperament. We are hoping he can save his eye sight. Stay tuned on that... we'll post updates as we know more.

We will post updates about Baxter when we get him into our vet on Monday.

***update 10/28*** We had a vet visit last night and she looked at his eye and said he is not blind - she said it appeared to be some sort of eye infection and she gave me ointment to place in his eye. She said it may help or it may not. (we will have to follow up) She said he is not 3 yrs old - more closer to 5 years - He has a heart murmor it's a 3 out of 6. His teeth need a good cleaning and He has fleas. (even though he came flea treated from the shelter we pulled him from)

I have let him off leash and he is fine. Housetraining is slow.

**update 11/4** Baxter is just a lover! He loves to sit on your lap and give KISSES! He gets along
with cats and is tolerate of other dogs... But I think he would prefer to be the
only dog you give your love to! We are still working on his Housetraining... (he is
getting there) -with some much needed time and patience he will get it. I think this
poor guy was left outside a lot in his previous life. He loves to chase around the
soccer ball - and he is very good at letting you know when someone is at your door
or driveway. He is crate trained. He does wonderful off leash - I am sure he was not
given the love that he deserves. So won't you welcome Baxter into your life? He
needs you as much as you need him.

Baxter is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, rabies, has been flea treated, wormed, will come with a free first vet visit, 30 days of pet health insurance, and a dog goodie bag full of stuff, along with his vetting folder.
